Liberty Fest Parade 2011
Here are a few pictures of the float. Some have been posted on Facebook, but not everyone uses it. Our float had a Front Porch theme and was great due to good volunteer participation and many creative ideas! First of all, thanks to Cindy Schaus for chairing this. She's very organized and efficient! Thanks to Sheryl Mills and her husband, David, for assembling the deck that we used as our front porch. Diana Sharp made all the lovely, decorative cat posters and Lauren Ratcliff made the "Officer Mike Sullivan" poster and the Adoption fee signs. Others who provided items for the float and/or helped put it together were: Janice Bird, Tina Williams, Diane Mahon, Pam Bell, Stephanie & Austin Coldiron, Amy Burks, Officer Mike Sullivan and Tanya & Caden Sullivan. The "stars" of the float were: Bud, Sophie, Bailey, Shakes, Tessie and Hilda! The cats were represented by the pictures, because they would not have done well with the noise of the parade and heat! Thanks, to all of you! |

St. Francis of Assisi Day, Oct. 4Are your pets a blessing to you? Each year Church of the Good Shepherd, 1000 N. Broadway, Edmond, commemorates St. Francis of Assisi Day with a Blessing of the Animals, treats and more, in their St. Francis garden. At a later time, dates and details will be published.
St. Francis was born in 1182 into a wealthy cloth merchant family, and in young days growing up, enjoyed pleasures, riches and little responsibility. Destined to be a member of nobility, dreamed of being a knight and fighting in the crusades, but was called instead by God to re-build his church. The founder of the "Franciscan Order", was a man known for his brotherly love, preaching, poverty, humility and silent teaching by personal example of a life of simplicity. St. Francis (Patron Saint of Animals) was noted for his amazing love for nature and all creatures. Animals found in him a tender friend and protector. It is said that animals responded to his kindness by listening devoutly to his sermons. Francis' close rapport with the animal creation has inspired artists. His preaching to the birds was and is a favorite scene from his life. The wolf of Gubbio, tamed by Francis' words, would listen to him preach, and was buried in the church yard. Today, the Franciscans follow him, the Catholics venerate him, and the Protestants have adopted him. |

Howl-O-Ween Party in the Park was a HUGE Success! On Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 Howl-O-Ween in the Park sponsored by the Edmond Animal Welfare and Paws for Life, Inc. was held at Edmond's Dog Park. It was a huge success! Seven out of twenty dogs were adopted and we raised several hundred dollars through our bake sale and donations. The weather didn't dampen the attendance and all humans were served Hot Cocoa and all dogs in and out of costumes were given a bag of doggie treats. Adults and children came dressed up along with their dogs. We had dogs dressed up as witches, lady bug, fairies, Tigger and others. Someone even brought their three beautiful sheep dogs and they were in costumes too. In other words there was a large turnout for the dog Howl-O-Ween costume contest. The poodle Tigger came in first place, Dorothy from the wizard of oz came in second, and a Boxer dog dressed up as a Boxer was third.
